Abstract:Intersectionality has emerged as a significant and popular concept in migration studies. This entry explores the concept of intersectionality in migration studies, highlighting how this framework can critically inform discussions about the complex, intersecting motives behind migration. In doing so, it reconceptualises migration motives as intersectionally structured social processes rather than categorical drivers. While the entry re-engages with themes of motivations, aspirations and drivers of migration from an intersectional angle, it aims to initiate a discussion on (i) how applying intersectionality can offer insight into what migrants seek to achieve through migration and (ii) develop a more nuanced understanding of the migration decision-making process.
