Biography

Dr Péter Erdélyi is Principal Academic at Bournemouth University Business School. He holds a PhD from the London School of Economics and Political Science, an MBA from IESE Business School in Barcelona, and an MA from the State University of New York at Binghamton (as Fulbright Scholar). He has extensive higher education teaching experience acquired in the USA, Taiwan, Slovakia, and the UK. Previously he held positions as Deputy Head of Department, Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in Strategy and Marketing, and roles as interim Head of Education & Professional Practice and Programme Leader for Master's programmes. He has also worked on various finance, technology, and marketing-related projects at or with several global corporations, including Goldman Sachs, Ford Motor Co., NIKE, and Intuit Inc., as well as with several micro-enterprises in e-commerce and entrepreneurial education. Péter has served as external examiner or external panel member at postgraduate and executive programme validation events in the UK and internationally.

Research

I am interested in the social study of markets, innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology, using qualitative research methods. For my PhD, I used actor-network theory (ANT) to study entrepreneurs' valuation practices and the market mechanisms involved in the emergence of the innovation of e-commerce. Among others, I draw on the work of Joseph Schumpeter, Martin Heidegger, and Bruno Latour for my conceptual and methodological toolbox. I have supervised doctoral students in the areas of entrepreneurship, small business management, and collaboration, in both developed and developing country contexts. I welcome inquiries from prospective PhD applicants interested in conducting qualitative research in the above areas.
