Biography
Dr. Md Ali Azam is a Lecturer in Social Work at Bournemouth University, teaching Human Development and Practice Learning. His work brings together experience from statutory social work, public policy, health, livelihood, higher education, and community development across the UK and India.
Dr Ali completed his PhD in 2019, examining the relationship between the built environment and social order in selected resettlement colonies in Delhi. His research interests include child and family welfare, safeguarding, health inequalities, migration, urban marginality, social policy, community development, and global social work.
Before joining Bournemouth University, he worked as an Experienced Social Worker with Swindon Borough Council, supporting looked after children and unaccompanied asylum-seeking children. His role involved assessment, care planning, safeguarding, and multi-agency working to support children and families.
Prior to moving to the UK, Dr Ali worked with the Delhi Legislative Assembly and the Government of Delhi on policy and service delivery initiatives relating to health, family welfare, and urban development... Earlier in his career, he contributed to projects with national and international organisations, including CSR initiatives, UNICEF and UNDP supported programmes, focusing on community development, social inclusion, livelihoods, research, and capacity building.
Dr Ali has published journal articles, book chapters, and a book. His teaching and research are informed by practice, policy, and community-based experiences gained across diverse social work and public sector settings.
