Biography
Ahmed Abed is a PhD researcher in the School of Law and Society at Bournemouth University. His research focuses on International Humanitarian Law, particularly the legal framework governing humanitarian assistance and access during armed conflict, with a particular focus on Syria and the legal status and obligations of armed non-state actors.
He has experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate law, including Public International Law and International Criminal Law. He also has experience in assessment, academic feedback, supervising undergraduate research projects and supervising postgraduate dissertations. His wider academic interests include human rights, humanitarian action, armed conflict and international law.
Research
My research focuses on International Humanitarian Law, particularly the legal framework governing humanitarian assistance and humanitarian access during armed conflict. My PhD examines how these rules are applied and implemented in Syria, including the legal status and obligations of armed non-state actors and the practical barriers to delivering humanitarian assistance. My wider research interests include human rights, international law, humanitarian action and armed conflict.

Profile of Teaching PG
- I have experience teaching postgraduate law at Bournemouth University, including International Criminal Law and Justice. My teaching has covered areas such as the International Criminal Court, war crimes, genocide, crimes against humanity and the crime of aggression. Separately, I have also supervised postgraduate students, supporting them with their research planning, structure and academic development.
