Biography

I am a media historian with primary research interests in the areas of Italian cinema and history, film distribution, cinema and social conflict, genre studies, and fandom. My area of expertise concerns horror distribution, Netflix and SVOD distribution, and the cultural and historical significance of Italian exploitation cinema.

I hold a Ph.D. in film studies where I address Italian police thrillers produced in the 1970s. The thesis explores intermedial features of the genre by addressing its link with and use of news media. The films were addressed as historical documents of the negotiation of the blame for state inefficiencies in the struggle against criminality and political violence.

I published an article on the distribution of Italian made-for-television horror films in the 1980s on The Italianist (2025), videogame cosplay in The Routledge Companion of Fan Video and Digital Authorship (2025), part of my doctoral research on the journal Rotura (2023), an interview with the director Sergio Martino in the Journal of Italian Cinema and Media Studies (2017), and I am currently working on a research project on Netflix's horror production, distribution and marketing...
