Biography

Miguel is a Principal Academic in Events Management in the Department of Sport & Events Management, Bournemouth University Business School.

His University education took place in Portugal and the UK. He has completed a BA in Tour Operating Management and PG Dip in Tourism Management in Portugal, where he also worked in higher education for 10 years before I joined BU. His PhD (Bournemouth University) was sponsored by the Portuguese Tourism Board and focused on the adoption of e-commerce in the purchasing of leisure travel by consumers.

Miguel has been at Bournemouth University since 2006, and he currently lectures one Foundation Year unit (Academic & Professional Practice) and three undergraduate units (Creativity & Innovation in Events, Consumer Psychology for Events, and International Event Management). He also supervises a number of UG and PG dissertations, a job which he loves doing. He has supervised 5 PhDs to completion.

In line with his passion of supervising students, in 2020 Miguel launched the Dissertation Academy YouTube Channel where he shares unique tips & tools to help students from across the world to write better dissertations & theses...

Research

My main area of research focus is consumer psychology applied to tourism, events and leisure. I research various concepts within consumer psychology, including satisfaction, motivation, prestige & status, recreation specialisation and experience. My PhD research was on the diffusion and adoption of technology-based innovations and I continue to maintain an interest in the area of innovative behaviours, technology related or otherwise.
